Walk with a Doc inspires communities through movement and conversation with walking programs led by healthcare providers. The program was founded in 2005 by David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Frustrated that he was not successfully motivating patients to be more physically active in the clinical setting, Dr. Sabgir invited them to join him for a walk in a local park one spring Saturday morning. That simple invitation sparked a movement and proved that health can happen outside the exam room. Today, Walk with a Doc has grown to 700+ communities across 40 countries. Each chapter hosts events at least monthly, beginning with a brief talk on a lifestyle medicine topic, followed by a group walk at a comfortable pace. This evidence-based model helps participants take a STEP toward better health through four key aspects: physical activity, lifestyle medicine education, social connection, and spending time in nature. Open to all licensed healthcare providers, the program offers turnkey resources, a proven framework, and personalized support to make launching and sustaining a chapter easy. Whether you want to start a program or join one near you, we invite you to experience a model that brings lifestyle medicine to life and helps make health and happiness accessible for all.
