Healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to stem the tide of chronic disease through patient education. Through training, clinicians are poised to treat and prevent the current pandemic of chronic disease and reduce unsustainable healthcare costs. The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville’s award-winning Lifestyle Medicine program (LMEd) provides open access, evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine biomedical and clinical curricular resources to build knowledge, skills and advocacy in clinicians for the prevention and treatment of lifestyle-related chronic disease. LMEd has reached over 2000 registrants in over 99 countries. LMEd received the 2019 U.S. President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Community Leadership Award, and was recognized as a commitment to population health at the 2022 White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health and the 2024 Department of Health and Human Services Food is Medicine Summit.
