Major Jeffrey J. Smith is a distinguished Behavioral Scientist in the U.S. Air Force, currently serving as the Director of Psychological Health at Hurlburt Field, Florida. In this capacity, he serves as the lead mental health consultant guiding readiness for 20K personnel. He serves as an Clinical Associate Professor for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and serves as Vice Chair of the Air Force Surgeon General’s Lifestyle & Performance Medicine (L&PM) Working Group. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Director of Behavioral Medicine for Graduate Education in the Family Medicine Residency, David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base California providing healthcare to 500K beneficiaries and teaching Family Medicine Residents, Physicians, Medical Students, and Other Allied Healthcare Professionals to treat patients and families on emotional, and psychosocial issues. Major Smith commissioned in 2007. He completed Commissioned Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. H has served in Military Treatment Facilities across 5 Major Commanders as an Educator, Master Clinician and Researcher. Maj Smith is a combat veteran of Operational ENDURING FREEDOM as the Officer in Charge of Combat Operational Stress Control, Afghanistan, and led as Officer in Charge of Behavioral Health for Joint Medical Task Force Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic Relief in California at the Request of the Health and Human Services Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Maj Smith earned his Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2021 and his Master of Health Professions education from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He graduated from Syracuse University in New York in 2004. He holds an independent license in Clinical Social Work and is double board certified in Clinical Social Work and Lifestyle Medicine, and fellow of Lifestyle Medicine, American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
