Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH, MBA, FAAOS, DipABLM is a nationally recognized orthopaedic trauma surgeon, physician executive, and leader in lifestyle medicine whose work bridges surgical excellence with prevention, resilience, and longevity. Board certified in both orthopaedic surgery and lifestyle medicine, Dr. Suk has been a pioneer in integrating nutrition, movement, sleep optimization, and social connection into surgical care pathways—developing protocols to mitigate perioperative sarcopenia, accelerate recovery, and improve long-term functional outcomes.
He is the co-founder of BlueZone Surgeons, a new organization dedicated to bringing evidence-based lifestyle medicine principles into surgical care, training, and education. BlueZone Surgeons reframes surgery not as an isolated intervention, but as one component of a broader, human-centered model of health that emphasizes durability, function, and lifespan performance.
Dr. Suk is also the co-editor of the forthcoming textbook Lifestyle Medicine and Surgery, which establishes a formal academic framework for integrating lifestyle-based interventions into surgical practice and training.
His career spans academic medicine, national healthcare leadership, and public service. He has served in senior governance roles shaping quality, safety, and equity in U.S. healthcare, and earlier was a White House Fellow advancing national initiatives linking environment, movement, and health. Trained across medicine, law, public health, and business, Dr. Suk brings a rare multidisciplinary lens to redefining the future of surgical care.
