Dr. Kalwaney is an Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine Boarded Physician and Educator with over 20 years of Graduate Medical Education (GME) experience. She is the Director of GME at Inova Health System and the Co-Director and Co-Founder of the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators Program, which offers a combined UME-GME Faculty Development certificate program for Medical Educators.
Dr. Kalwaney developed the first two-provider Inpatient Diabetes Consult Services, which grew to the current six-provider Endocrine consult service at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. As a Diabetologist on the Endocrine Consult Service, she developed an interest and expertise in Metabolic health and has developed a Nutrition, Diet, and Food sustainability curriculum for Inova residents and University of Virginia-Inova senior medical students. Dr. Kalwaney serves on the Executive Board for Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action (VCCA) and is the founder and co-leader of their Nutrition and Food Sustainability committee. She also serves on the Virginia Chapter ACP Climate and Health committee, Climate and Health Education Collaborative (VCHEC), Inova Health Systems Sustainability Council, Inova’s Green Team, and the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) Nutrition Committee. Dr Kalwaney is particularly interested in how Dietary Patterns affect Cardiometabolic Health and Climate Change and the implementation of these educational initiatives for Physicians and Patients.
Dr. Kalwaney has held various GME leadership roles, including Program Director for the Georgetown-Inova Transitional Residency and Associate PD for the Inova Internal Medicine Residency. She is also a mentor and coach for Program Directors, Teaching Faculty, Chief Residents, and Trainees, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals.
