Jan Dowell's mission is to impact the overall wellness of individuals through practical application of science-based information. She blends certifications in nutrition, culinary medicine, health coaching, and personal training to address the whole person, so becoming a diplomate of ACLM made perfect sense. Her career path has included coaching patients with weight-related disorders, as well as sports nutrition. Jan realized how many of our health solutions depend on what happens in the kitchen, so she returned to school to complete a degree in culinary arts and is certified in culinary medicine. Jan currently teaches culinary medicine to medical students, lifestyle medicine students, and culinary students, along with cooking classes in her community. Jan has co-authored a nutrition textbook as part of an interdisciplinary team, confirming that addressing wellness needs to happen with whomever you can partner with. Her latest endeavor is managing a teaching garden at a community college with use by the culinary and biology students, truly getting to the root of wellness.
