Dr. Edward J. Stein is a Consulting Pharmacist focused on Lifestyle Medicine, pharmacy practice and public health, access to care, rural health, and needs of underserved populations.
He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University, completed an ASHP Specialty Residency in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, and holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Massachusetts and a Master in Science in Medical Nutrition from Arizona State University. He is a board-certified Lifestyle Medicine Professional as a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) as well as a Pharmacist Immunizer.
Dr. Stein retired from US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as a Captain having been on active duty as a pharmacy officer for twenty-eight years. During his PHS career he was assigned to the Indian Health Service as a staff pharmacist, pharmacy resident, senior clinical pharmacist and regional pharmacy consultant and clinical pharmacy educator. He provided leadership on several pharmacy practice initiatives including the IHS Pharmacy Standards of Practice, “A Report to the Surgeon General: Improving Patient and Health System Outcomes through Advanced Pharmacy Practice,” and the PHS National Clinical Pharmacy Specialist certification and credentials. In March 2020, CAPT Stein was tapped to take part in the IHS’s COVID-19 response as the regional Incident Command’s Logistics Section Chief and in this role worked with local, county, state, tribal and federal government partners to coordinate effective pandemic responses.
Dr. Stein is the co-founder and principal of Modern Health Goals LLC which provides medical education, consulting and lifestyle and health and wellness coaching to a range of organizations and clients.
Dr. Stein has been recognized for his leadership contributions to pharmacy including receiving the 2022 Arizona Pharmacist Association Elias Schlossberg Award for significant contributions to health system pharmacy in the form of sustained exemplary lifetime service and the 2022 American Public Health Association Pharmacy Section Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of long-standing highly meritorious contributions to public health pharmacy. His active-duty USPHS awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, a Commendation Medal, two Achievement Medals, and two Presidential Unit Citations.
Dr. Stein is a member of the Arizona Pharmacy Association, the American Pharmacists Association, the American Public Health Association and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine where he currently serves on the College’s Certification Committee and is past-Chair of the Pharmacists Member Interest Group.
