Lifestyle Medicine Psychologist
Kaiser Permanente
San Jose, California, United States
Laura Machado, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist in the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Lifestyle Medicine program. She earned her doctorate from The Wright Institute in 2017, where her research focused on defining sustainable recovery from eating disorders—a specialty she has cultivated for over a decade. She became a certified Body Positive group facilitator in 2016, has led community initiatives and professional trainings across Northern California, and co-authored The Nuanced Nutrition Curriculum. Her interests later expanded to the broader biopsychosocial factors that influence medical outcomes, leading her to join the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and ultimately the Kaiser Permanente team.
Prior to her career in psychology, Dr. Machado graduated cum laude from Kenyon College and taught with Teach For America, where she led curriculum development workshops and served on her school’s leadership committee. She is also a mom of two and the organizer of “Second Sundays,” a monthly neighborhood gathering to foster community.
