Dr. David Benavides, M.D., DipABLM, is faculty at Harvard Medical School and a board-certified sleep medicine physician in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Mass General Brigham, and founder of SleepSpan, PLLC, a physician-led initiative focused on sleep and circadian health. He trained in residency at the University of Michigan and is Harvard-trained in sleep medicine through his fellowship at Mass General Brigham.
As a physician, educator, and academic, his work centers on sleep as a fundamental yet underutilized pillar of healthspan and cardiometabolic health. He has particular expertise in the relationship between sleep and cardiovascular disease, especially arrhythmias, and works closely with cardiology colleagues on sleep related cardiovascular care. He has presented through Harvard Medical School continuing education programs and at regional and national medical meetings. His perspectives have been featured by the Heart Rhythm Society through HRStv.
Dr. Benavides teaches the next generation of physicians in general clinical medicine at Harvard Medical School and trains residents and fellows in sleep medicine. Nationally, he serves as co-chair of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Fellowship Bootcamp Subcommittee, where he helps organize and teach educational programming for sleep medicine fellows. He also contributes to the field as a medical journal reviewer for Mayo Clinic Proceedings, reflecting his commitment to advancing sleep and evidence-based science.
