David Eisenberg, MD, is Director of Culinary Nutrition and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He founded the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative (www.teachingkitchens.org), a network of 68 organizations with teaching kitchens, intended to evaluate best practices relating to nutrition, culinary and lifestyle education. He was the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative’s Executive Director from 2016-2023 and is its Senior Advisor. He has directed the annual Harvard Chan School of Public Health education conference, “Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives” (www.Healthykitchens.org) since 2006. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his fellowship training in general internal medicine and is Board Certified. In 1979, David served as the first U.S. medical exchange student to the People’s Republic of China. He has been an advisor to the NIH, the FDA, the Federation of State Medical Boards, the US National Borad of Medical Examiners, and the Department of HHS.
David has authored articles involving complementary, integrative, and lifestyle medicine, as well as nutrition education. From 2023-2024 he was Guest Editor of a Special Series relating to teaching kitchens: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/nutrients/special_issues/F62DAN81H6 . He recently co-authored a paper published in JAMA Network Open regarding Nutrition Education Competencies for medical trainees ( https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2824217). His research involves strategies to optimize lifestyle, enhance clinical outcomes, and reduce health related costs.
As the son and grandson of professional bakers, David aspires to bring together the culinary and medical communities to enhance human and planetary health.
