Janice Altman - Director, US Men's Sheds Assoc.
Janice is a former non-profit Executive Director and became a disability rights advocate in CA after the birth of her daughter. She was a part of the early creation of Family Resource Centers in CA, a movement that has spread throughout the US; she was an early developer of the IEP/504 forms and processes.
After moving to Jackson Hole, WY, she worked at the Community Counseling Center for almost a decade, and saw mental health services delivered in a true ‘wrap-around support’ model; staff in Wyoming took SPMI clients skiing and snowshoeing to improve their wellness outcomes; clinicians also assisted clients with budgeting, meal prep, mindfulness activities, life skills training, and provided many opportunities to overcome social isolation. Most recently, she has been a business skills-trainer for Interns joining the Silicon Valley workforce , as well as serving in various capacities with local senior issues, researching Best Practices for assisting seniors who are aging in place alone. She has a master’s degree in organization development from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara.
She would like to see a burst of growth in the US Men’s Shed Movement and is actively seeking advisors and the funding to provide emerging Sheds and new leaders with the support and materials they need to launch a successful community Shed. Janice_Altman_CA@usmenssheds.org
