Mark G. Goetting, MD is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and Internal Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine. He is board certified in neurology, pediatrics, sleep medicine, behavioral sleep medicine, lifestyle medicine and obesity medicine.
Dr. Goetting earned his medical degree in 1980 from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. At that time he also underwent mentorship in principles of medical education using multimedia technology. In 1982 he completed a pediatrics residency at Southwestern Michigan Area Health Education Center. In 1985 Dr. Goetting completed an adult neurology residency, pediatric neurology fellowship and EEG/sleep medicine fellowship from the University of Michigan/Ann Arbor. In 1986 he completed a pediatric critical care fellowship from Henry Ford Hospital.
He is the chairman of the sleep medicine interest group of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the president of the Michigan Academy of Sleep Medicine. In 2024 he completed training and became certified in psychedelic-assisted therapy and research and in end-of-life care.. He serves as the sleep medicine consultant to the NCAA Training and Performance Committee.
Research interests are in sleep-wake behavioral and pharmacological progress and in women's health. He co-launched the Western Michigan University School of Medicine Lifestyle Medicine Medical Interest Group and participated in the National Board of Medical Examiners lifestyle medicine question bank.
