Liana B. Abascal, PhD, MPH, DipACLM, is a clinical health psychologist and Associate Professor at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. Her clinical and research interests include eating disorders and weight concerns, diabetes (Type 1 & 2), successful behavior change, and nutritional decision making. She received her PhD from the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, Behavioral Medicine track, and her MPH from SDSU with an emphasis in Health Promotion. She completed her internship with a focus on Adult Health and Behavior at the UCLA Semel Institute and her fellowship at the UCLA School of Public Health, Department of Cancer Prevention and Control Research. She has been certified in Lifestyle Medicine since 2020 and was the founder of the ACLM Behavioral and Mental Health MIG. Dr. Abascal has previously held positions with the Behavioral Diabetes Institute, the UCSD Eating Disorders Clinic, and Rady Children’s Hospital Diabetes Clinic. Her publications include numerous peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters; she frequently gives talks at national conferences as well as within the local community.
