Dr. Alison MacKinlay is a dedicated Family Physician with a strong focus on preventive care and chronic disease management. In 2021, Dr. MacKinlay became board certified in Lifestyle Medicine, integrating this approach into Family Medicine to empower patients through nutrition, physical activity, and stress management. As the founder of the Address Chronic Conditions, Evaluate, Support, Seek Lifestyle Medicine Clinic (ACCESS LIFEMED) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Dr. MacKinlay leads a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based interventions that enhance health outcomes while encouraging patient engagement. In addition to establishing ACCESS LIFEMED, Dr. MacKinlay introduced the shared medical appointment (SMA) model, fostering a supportive environment for group-based lifestyle interventions. This innovative approach has transformed care delivery at OSUWMC, inspiring other departments to adopt similar initiatives. Dr. MacKinlay has actively mentored providers in implementing SMAs, further broadening the impact of this collaborative model. Recognized for expertise in Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. MacKinlay has contributed to developing comprehensive weight management guidelines at OSUWMC and secured funding through the Cristafi-Monte Award for research on Group Lifestyle Medicine Intervention for cardiopulmonary disease. With experience presenting at the ACLM 2024 conference, Dr. MacKinlay is committed to advancing Lifestyle Medicine and enhancing patient autonomy, looking forward to contributing to the field's growth.
